What you need to know about zac gillam
Profession: I have a dual career as a senior policy officer with the Consumer Action Law Centre, advocating for the interests of low-income and vulnerable consumers – and I’m also a filmmaker, with a fledgling production company. I’m a professionally produced screenwriter, with one feature to my name, and have recently had another script optioned by a major production company.
What he loves about TEDxStKilda: TEDx is great because it encourages people to give over a day to learning, absorb new ideas and expose themselves to new perspectives. We get very caught up in our daily lives, locked into repetitive routines – so it’s always nice to step out of that, in a thoughtful way.
What might be underrated about St Kilda: I don’t know if it’s hidden or underrated but I really like the St Kilda Botanical Gardens – they’re awesome. (Editor’s note – totally underrated, not enough people know about these beautiful gardens)
Favourite TED talk: As a natural introvert, who works hard – quite consciously – to put himself out there, I really enjoyed Susan Cain’s talk, The Power of Introverts. In our culture, often the loudest person in the room dominates the conversation – but that doesn’t mean they’re talking the most sense! It was a popular talk that has had over 13 million views, putting it in the top twenty most watched TED talks ever – and I think it genuinely raised people’s awareness of the introvert/extrovert dichotomy.
